Olde Mill Inn Wedding

Some beautiful moments of the bride and groom at this Olde Mill Inn Wedding

Choosing a venue is one of the most challenging parts of the whole wedding planning process. After all, you want it to be a wonderful place to remember the most special day of your life, surrounded by your friends and family. I work with many different people in my field of work, but one of the most common themes I’ve found is that when couples are looking for their perfect wedding location they often want something which is both aesthetically breathtaking and historic. Now, you might be thinking “Well, that’s almost impossible to find!”, and you’re right. Good venues are few and far between, which makes finding your perfect wedding location all the more difficult. Well, read on to find out why the Olde Mill Inn wedding venue is just for you!

History of the Olde Mill Inn

The Olde Mill Inn, located in Basking Ridge, is a venue like no other. It’s somewhere that encompasses all of your dreams of a traditional American wedding combined with the history and authenticity of the 18th century.

Situated conveniently between both New York and Philadelphia, this enchanting restaurant, hotel, and events venue was originally built back in 1768 by a miller named Samuel Lewis. Originally a barn and water-powered gristmill, the building was transformed into a hotel in the late 1920s (the venue and meeting center buildings were added onto the property some fifty years later).

After passing through several hands over its years, including Lewis’ grandson and famous restauranter William Childs, the venue has recently celebrated its 250th anniversary- now that’s impressive!

Aside from its history, what makes this such a great venue for getting married?

Well, for starters, The Olde Mill Inn was voted “Best of Weddings” by The Knot for thirteen years, as well as winning several awards for being a top wedding venue.

It’s easy to understand why when you delve into what it has to offer. If you’re someone who’s always dreamt of a rustic, fairytale wedding, The Olde Mill won’t disappoint.

Boasting ten acres of estate, The Olde Mill wedding venue can accommodate everything from small intimate ceremonies to large extravagant weddings and anything in between.

Wedding Venue Space

Its largest wedding venue space, The Grand Washington Ballroom is big enough to comfortably accommodate an amazing 240 happy guests. And, just as you’d imagine a romantic grand ballroom to be, you can expect to find crystal chandeliers, antiqued glass mirrors, and a great big dance floor to get the whole family up to show off their best dance moves!

The Olde Mill also provides full catering facilities for your big day, with a number of menus to choose from to suit you and your guests.

Then, when you’re ready for some fresh air or a drink al fresco, you can open its romantic french doors onto a beautiful English garden courtyard.

For more intimate weddings, The Grain House is for you. The Olde Mill’s rustic venue is set in the serene hills amongst natural woodland and features three impressive options for a small wedding setting.

To start, the bright and airy Fox & Hounds room is perfect for a medium-sized wedding party of up to 120 guests. It not only overlooks The Olde Mill’s gardens, but it includes an idyllic atrium to catch the best of the day’s sun. Picture yourself enjoying a post-wedding cocktail with your closest friends and family as you overlook the gardens and river!

Similar to the Fox & Hounds room, the historic Hunt Room & Pub can accommodate 120 people. This characterful venue comes with stacks of history, which you can immediately see from its stone-wall fireplace and tin ceiling. The room also opens up onto a terrace and gazebo, making it the perfect backdrop for a rustic style wedding (and some great photos!).

Lastly, for more intimate weddings of up to 40 sit-down dinner guests, The Grain Room. As you walk in, you’ll immediately notice the authentic beamed ceiling above a lovely brick wall fireplace. For the evening, head out onto its adjoining deck to spend some time looking out on the serene river and lawn.

Weddings almost always require friends and family to travel, so you’ll be pleased to hear that The Olde Mill Inn is also a great place for lodging. With a host of modern amenities, The Olde Mill Inn wedding venue is an idyllic location for traveling guests to stay the night. It also offers luxurious, spacious suites for the happy bride and groom to stay after a long day of celebrations.
